2008 M3 Base Price - Real Calculations
I've done some simple research and math to come up with the base price on the new 2008 M3. If you go tohttp://www.bmw.de/de/de/index_highend.html the listed price for a base 2008 M3 is 66650 euros which is $89,328. Now the base price for a 335i coupe listed on the same site is 44650 euros which is $59829. The US base price for a 335i coupe is $40,800. If you take $40,800 divided by $59829 and multiply that ratio times $89,328 you get a US base price of $60,916. I think that sounds pretty accurate. Anyone have any other info on pricing? I figure a fully loaded one is going to get to $70K.

I just figured that if we had a solid price from Germany on the new M3 and a price on a 335i the ratio of the two in markup would be similar compared to known prices from the US on the 335i. I hope your right. I could swing a $55K car, but not a $65K car.

Yeah, that is probably about right, very high 50s. Expect most optioned out to be just below 70K

Couple of Magazines estimated it to be 55K-70K for base price..
then you look at the price range and you're like, wtf? that's like going to identify a suspect and telling the cops, yeah, the guy was between 5' and 7' tall...and he weigh somewhere between 100-300 lbs....does that help?

Well... Yes... Anyone have a better way to estimate the price? Especially since we actually HAVE a price, just one that is overseas.

When you guys are saying "optioned out", what kind of stuff are you thinking of adding? I would think that the base M3 would come with most of the things you would want--I mean, does a stripped down M3 really exist?

so what? history has shown us that prices oversea is not a good indicator for prices in the US and Canada.
At this point, it's all conjecture, I'm just saying what's the point in guessing the price right now, when all we have to do is wait for the official announcement?

There are about 15k worth of options for the 335 (fully optioned 335 coupe is near 56k msrp). The M3 will have as many options and some exclusive options that cost more. I'm guessing between 15-20k worth of options. Few people fully load an M3. Based on your guess the range will be closer to 59-75k. Not bad for an over 400HP M engine and all the M goodies in a 3 series.

Why are cars so cheap in the US?
![]() US guys, please do not complain if you do not get the M-sport package if you can buy cars with those prices. Base price of 335i E92 is around E38k in Europe tax free and then add teh local taxes. This makes around USD 47.5k + taxes .And your cars are better equipped as standard (logic7 etc..) |

Read up
Man you folks should do a bit of reading of the history on the board before such weak posts (mostly directed at the OP). The German price has been known for a long time and we have all been using ratios, German, UK, SA, etc. for some time to get a better idea of the US base price. Some ratios seem reasonable, some don't work at all. Then selective choice of data (i.e. totally unscientific and biased) gives you a number you think is reasonable.
The ratio method works sometimes and sometimes not, no real way to predict exactly when it will work. |

US pricing
Using South African prices puts it in the $56-59k+ range, depending on what you compare it to. I think best any of these comparisons tels us is that it'll be roughly $55 - 60K US base. You can analyze it all you want but until BMWUSA announces it, it's all educated speculation.

Options that I would want on my M3:
ECD (the cockpit adjustable shocks), 19" wheels. Keep it simple. Cloth & leather. No heavy stereo. And under 60k. It looks like there will be some big $ electronic options.

Base price of an M3 usually falls right within a few hundred of a fully loaded top end 3-series coupe.
The E46 M3 started with a base price of $46,995 back in 2001. A fully loaded 330Ci came in around $47,500-48,000. Expect to see the same pricing strategy with the new M3. A fully loaded 335i coupe runs around $55k. The new M3 should start right around that price; perhaps $54,995 or $55,995.

M3 Price Tag
I agree $70K in the States sounds about right. Don't be fooled by MSRP. Just saw 328 convertible on show room floor with sticker of $58K. No way M3 will fall in 50 to 60K range. Tack on options, rims, etc. = $75K. Dealers will be taking advantage too! Talk to fleet sales for reality check.
