Cardio help.

Hello.
Years of abusing my joints has finally caught up with me...
I recently discovered that I have Osteochondritis Dissecans on my ankle (on the talus). Doctor advised me against exercise that involves putting a lot of stress on my ankle... which is any kind of exercise that involves running...
Only cardio activity I can think of is Swimming but I have torn labrum on my left shoulder which needs surgery. Every time I try to swim I dislocate my shoulder...

I would like to keep in shape. I love doing cardio. Please help me find a good cardio exercise.

I don't think this forum is populated by idiots. You do.

swimming isn't the only thing you can do in the pool.

you can try some light jogging or running along with squats and lunges, the buoyancy of the water can decrease the compression of on your joints, especially in your ankle..resistance can be add'd by increasing speed of movement of surface area of movement limb(s)

regarding you dislocating your shoulder, I'm assuming it's with an overhead motion, so just avoid overhead strokes.

aside from swimming, cycling might be good as well so long as it's flat roads and light pedaling, as that can be less compressive to your TC joint, but the repetitive motion in your ankle could cause further degen as well...

I see you are in so cal.LA...out of curiosity who is your MD? Is he a podiatrist or foot/ankle ortho specialist? Also, if you have an instability in your shoulder, why not get that addressed, so you can begin a swimming regiment once repaired....if you need/want a few shoulder surgeon suggestions here in so cal, shoot me a pm....

my occupation: physical therapist, outpatient ortho clinical setting..NOT a "forum idiot"

You can do walking or some jogging for your fitness purposes.
You can also control your body weight through your diet plan.
Eat raw veggies diets instead of fried, junk, and fast foods to be fit and healthy.
