I guess since we're talking handguns il selling my m&p .40 to replace it with a 9mm for competitive shooting. It had the thumb safety option which CAN be removed but cannot be added to one that doesnt have it. Literally only has 50 rounds through it. Will only ship to a ffl for transfer

starting off, you cant go wrong with a glock or an XD. If you do decide to go with the XD9, which is a good pistol, I would recommend the XD(M)9. I feel the trigger is a lot better on the "M" models.

Personally, my choices for my first 9 were the following: Sig Sauer P228, HK P7M13, Browning Hi-Power, Walther P88, and a Glock 17. I eventually ended up with all of them, but I started out with the P228. The only one I got rid of was the Glock...not because it's a bad gun, but because it just never felt right to me. |

thanks guys. the main reason is self defense. i plan on getting a concealed weapons permit so i can keep it in my car. so a sub compact would be nice. and theres no budget yet.

My home protection weapon is a Sig P229 in a .40 cal. I bought a glock 26 for the exact reason you are looking to buy a sub compact. the 26 is small and easy to conceal in your waistband..

If you're comfortable with a gun already, a striker fire sub compact would be good like a glock, M&P or an XDM. If not, you might wanna look into getting a double action first gun so you don't have any accidents. If you're convinced you want a striker AND are comfortable with it, keep it unchambered.

![]() One of my 1911s with a buddy's YHM Cobra. I've been waiting for my F4 to clear on my Ti-Rant, so I don't need to mess with this YHM thing anymore... LOL ![]() Just for fun, GSG1911 with a Titanium retrofitted Gemtech Passport. |

![]() and you guys just now getting into shooting.... whether its competition or protection i still think 9mm is a GREAT caliber! and unless you have a lot of active shooting training/practice you will stop an intruder faster with a 9mm than you will a .45 because its the same logics as in competition. and people dont realize how minute the REAL difference is in modern ballistics... while recoil actually is significantly different. in a real life "situation" you arent going to have all the time in the world to re line up your shot so the faster you can can get back on target the in a "vital" area the better chance you have of stopping an attack. 7-8 fast well placed 9mm shots in center mass will stop someone a lot faster the 2-3 .45 cal shots and i dont care who says otherwise... sorry for the rant but i see WAY too many "i carry a .45 because i wanna stop em in one shot" dumb asses |

Just got my concealed permit in the mail today. Now it's time to hit the ranges. It's going to be a major learning curve for me. I'm use to M16 rifles from when I was in the Army.

You really think that a 9mm is equal because 7-8 rounds center mass is acceptable? So much for carrying more rounds huh, you plan on needing 8 rounds per target. Leaves two targets per mag. I'm leaving the "what-is-better" argument up int he air, but your logic is off man. |

and i would never say "how many rounds is needed" per target/ per caliber. every situation is different. you fire until the attacker stops whether it be 1,2,10 whatever. there's no magical number. i was just using an example of how long it would take to reset sights in a high stress (or hell even relaxed) situation. if you are battling a timer... i promise you'll shoot better with 9mm than you will with .45. thats just common sense.... reverse the situation i could give you a .44 and a .22 i would be shocked at all if you had the same grouping because you aren't rushed. all that being said.... nice fucking guns man ![]() |
