Noob DCT question
So let\'s say I\'m using DCT and I\'m in 5th gear coming to a light. Do I have to manually downshift 3 times to reach 2nd then 1st or do I stay in 5th and let the car handle the downshifting??

If you're in S and you come to a complete stop, it will go back to 1 for you. If you're just slowing down, it will only downshift if it thinks the engine will stall. This can create a situation when you're going too slow in 5th (for example) and the car does nowhere when you give it gas.

It's a single / that I made due to me typing fast on the iPhone. I don't see why anyone would place a backslash on purpose or why someone feels the need to comment about it?

It downshifts for you...sometimes only to 2nd...but if it's a dead stop it goes to 1st

it depends on your Drivelogic setting is usually dictates whether you get 1st or 2nd....

In general, using S3 as a reference point, you should be mindful of the gear in which you're going into the turn. Going into a turn of 90 degrees in 5-6 you'd probably let the tranny shift for you because it will put you in a good gear (2nd if taken sensibly) based on the speed to which you've decelerated. But if entering at 3-4 you should be prepared to downshift because based on your exit speed the tranny won't shift for you as you'll still be within the tolerances of 3 and possibly 4 according to the shift algorithm, although over-geared for good acceleration coming out. Another way to look at it, if you're going to manually intervene on deceleration, keep the intervention going all the way through the turn.

I downshift when coming to a stop and let the engine do some of the braking. I usually downshift through 3rd and 2nd, but never all the way to 1st.
