Fluctuations in RPM while in different gears

I have been having weird problems with my car during stop and go traffic and when i first start the car in the morning. It starts okay, but then when I slowly reverse my car out of the garage, the rpm gauge would jump around from 1k to 2k like a see saw even when I don't touch the gas pedal. At one point when I stopped, the car had such wide fluctuations that the car engine had that dying sound at very low rpms (like 400-600 rpm). Once it shut down completely while coming to a sudden stop from 10 mph. This doesn't happen all the time but it did happen like 3x today.

has anyone had this issue before? I can't seem to always reproduce this problem so thats why I haven't talked to the dealership yet or any other mechanic. I thought I'd hit you guys up first. Any thoughts I should pursue?
