DCT?

This is most likely a repost, so sorry, but i don't really know what this DCT is. What does it do, and when is available on the M3?

DCT stands for Double Clutch Transmission, and it will be the replacement for the SMG semi-automatic gearbox on the M3. At launch, the E92 M3 will only be available as a six speed manual gearbox. In April next year BMW will offer the E92 M3 with the option of a 7 speed double clutch semi-auto gearbox called 'M DCT'.

Your're right--it's been gone through before. But, to summarize:

Unlike manual or SMG (also called AMT, Automated Manual Transmission), the Dual Clutch Transmission never has to let up on power delivery during shifts, and the shifts are at least as fast as SMG. So, it should have an advantage over those two in acceleration. The other advantage over SMG is that it is smoother under all conditions. VW/Audi calls their DCT "DSG".

Just a small correction. A more accurate description for the current BMW SMG is an automated manual as opposed to a semi-automatic. Cheers.

so then how exactly do you drive a DCT? Do you drive it the way you drive an automatic or do you drive it like a stick or what?

Either. Most have Manual and Auto modes. In manual, you shift via paddles or stick, but just don't need to use a clutch pedal. In Auto, it's, well, automatic.
