order finally arrived...

My new 2011 arrived on 26 Sep.
Space Grey Metallic, 6 MT, with almost no options, just ZCP, heated seats, carbon leather trim.
I hadn't seen speed cloth in person until delivery day. I really like it a lot. I wasn't totally sure about the color but in high desert sun it looks spectacular. I'm extremely pleases. The only thing I'd do different is the aluminum trim to break up the dark tones of the interior.
I've put 400+ miles on this week and love it!
My last fun car was a '91 C2 964 and before that a 944 S2. We sold my wife's '08 MINI Cooper S right before the ordering the M3.

So far, I'd concur with the MT feeling a little 'rubbery'. It's not as precise feeling as my old 911's and the gates don't quite feel evenly spaced. 5th and 6th feel farther to the right from 3rd and 4th than 3rd and 4th feel from 1st and second. (hopefully that makes sense) The steering feels precise but a tad light and not as tactile or coarse as my old 911.
I like the shifter better than the MINI's for what it's worth.
It is still extremely satisfying to drive. I've throughly enjoyed reading the opinions and experiences on this site. Thanks all for sharing.

The gear change is a little rubbery
I just bought the ZHP gear knob
World of difference
I love my shifts now
Only problem is I can't fit the OEM boot since it's one piece with the oem boot
So trying to find a replacement boot

The gears will start to feel better as you drive it. The 2nd gear gate especially will become a LOT less resistant after ~2300 miles. Aluminum trim does break up a black interior which is why I got it, but if you're in the desert then the downside would have been that the aluminum would be EXTREMELY hot when you got back to the car -- I found that out through a Texas summer on the few times I didn't have covered parking.

Congrats on the purchase!

You can cut your stock boot off of the knob or you can by a new ring and a custom made boot from LeatherZ.com

Thanks gentlemen. I don't have any complaints about the 1 to 2 shifts or feel there is anything difficult with this transmission. It just isn't as precise feeling as my older Porsches. Oh well.
I have been reading about and considering the ZHP just to make it feel less 'rubbery' and maybe more precise.
I have noticed that i like driving with the M button on as I like the quicker throttle tip in. I find it easier to drive in traffic with a more immediate response. In the first 500 miles, with my commute of 60% highway and 40% city, I've been getting between 17 and 18 mpg. I also haven't found the car lacking in torque as a daily driver. In fact the car seems quite civil as a DD. It makes freeway entrances and merging with traffic a whole lot of fun. And I do take the long way home for fun. Usually with the windows down just to listen to the motor.
I live outside of Albuquerque, so I'm in a high altitude environment. I'm looking forward to a sea level road trip.
