Wink Finally drove a DCT, my thoughts

i went to carmax to see what they would give me for my E92. While I waited for an appraisal, they had a gray E92 2009 with DCT. I took it for a 4 mile cruise and could see how addicting it is. The shifts were so crisp and fast. With that being said, I felt less engaged in the driving experience versus my 6-speed. You dont have the slight jerk back between gears that a manual tranny has when you are getting on it, DCT is almost too good IMO. I have a short 4 mile commute to my BMW shop and dont sit in traffic all day, I could see the DCT advantages in several scenarios, but I just love a good old fashion manual..cheers- B

S5, WOT, shifting at red line will bang into gears. Definitely not as harsh as beating on a 6-speed but definitely not smooth.

I've had my DCT car a little over a year now, my first dual clutch transmission. It is without doubt the better transmission for track, both quicker shifts (small advantage), and total freedom for left foot braking (much bigger advantage). The occasional convenience around town in D mode is also nice. But, with that said, were it not for an arthritic condition in my right shoulder use, I would find the conventional clutch more fun to drive.
