Rubbing issue with 255-35-19 Front 275-35-19

A month ago, i upgraded my tires to Michelin Pilot Super Sport 255-35-19 Front 275-35-19 Rear from stock size Michelin PS2.

After that i hear some noise when i drive around 10mph and turn the steering wheel left or right. So, i went to the dealer to find out what is causing problem. And, they told me that it is rubbing because i went to bigger tire than stock. Is anyone knows how do i get rid of this noise??? It is really bothering me right now. Thank you!

By the way i didnt lowered the car. No spacers. And i have aftermarket rims 19x8.5. Et15 19x9.5 et20

That's weird
I'm running same sizes in PS2s and no issues
But my fronts are 9.5" and rears are 10"
So maybe my tire is stretched a little more?
Not sure of offsets
But I have the VMR VB3s in 19" so you can check

Front offsets are 22
Rears are 25

You should not be rubbing at all.

Check your tire pressures, over inflated tires can cause a lot of rubbing.

shouldn't rub.
255/35/19F, 285/30/19R PS2 tires are E92 M3 GTS stock size.

No rubbing here as well..could be the fact its on a 8.5" rim vs. a 9" rim that its a tad taller along with the very aggressive offset. Also, as Malek says..check your air pressure.

I'm confident it's due to the 8.5in rim (so the 255 isn't as stretched as it would on a 9.5in, thus the tire is higher) and your very low et15 offset.

but, even so, you shouldn't rub as PS2s don't really have crazy sidewalls

Its simply the offset guys! Its sticking out that much further which means that much closer to the edge of the fender which is rubbing. The heigh difference is minimal on a 8.5 wheel v. a 9 inch wheels if using the same tire.

As noted above, offset is probably the culprit here, not pressure. ET15 puts the wheel just over 1/2" closer to the fender than stock. You'd have to put stupid-high air pressure in the tire to change the shape very much, and even then it probably wouldn't be enough to matter.

Extra negative camber is probably your next step to try, unless you want drop the front size back to stock or modify fender/fender liner.

Similar Question - Changing Tire Size

Hi All,

I currently run the standard 19" 245/35 front and 265/35 rear but have been debating bumping the rear to 275/35. It was suggested to me to keep the stagger the same, meaning 255/35 front. Anyone know if this is possible on the stock 19" premium wheels and more importantly if I need to worry about spacers or camber to prevent rubbing?

...I run Michelin Super Sports these days.

You will be fine on stock rims. OP was running aftermarket rims with a significantly more aggressive offset up front than stock.

Spacers don't "prevent" rubbing...they push the wheel out further effectively lowering or making the offset more aggressive. dialing in more negative camber can help in cases where the tire is rubbing.

You shouldn't have any issues... Are you using spacers currently?

I have this setup.

I'm running 255/35-19 F, 275/35-19 R PSS on OEM 220M Rims.

At first the rears rubbed under significant bumps, or with rear passengers and any slight bump.

The previous owner of my car had 12mm spacers in the rear (none in the front). By the rub marks on the rear tires you could tell it was very minor contact. So I put 10MM spacers in the rear, and moved the 12mm spacers to the front. No rubbing issues since.

I had some rubbing as well when i ran 255/35R19 on stock 220's front, then i switched to 255/30R19, with no issues.
I run AD08's though...

My car is 100% stock (i.e. no spacers). I have asked my local dealership to check into this as well, but have not yet heard back and need to be ordering a new set very soon (basically running slicks at the moment). Just contemplating keeping it stock or going with the larger 255 front 275 rear. Can I get away with 255/35 and 275/35 or do I need to drop to /30? (or will this not matter?) I did have my car delimited, but top speed isn't a huge concern... just looking for a larger contact patch to minimize the need for MDM or DSC having to kick in upon initial launch. A friend of mine went up 1 size on his M5 and had the recommendation for me, so I wanted to check into it. I love the way my car handles and do hope this won't have a negative impact... but can't image more grip will affect anything other than top speed.

this might help...a comparison of 255/30 and 255/35 to stock. Seems 255/35 is much better matched in terms of variances.

I can't believe how many times this exact question comes up on this forum. At least once per week. Do a search.... 255/35 and 275/35 is a proven change that will work (it is the most common tire "upgrade" forum members perform). These are the perfect tire sizes for the OEM Competition package wheels which are 0.5" wider than the standard 19" wheels. 255/30/19 is absolutely not the right size for the front of the car. It's a full inch too small (that is a recommended 20" tire size). The 255/35/19 Might rub at full lock on the rear portion of the fender liner due to the slightly larger overall diameter (this is hit or miss depending on the tire brand, wheel offset, and tolerances of each individual car). This is not a big deal; its very minor and only happens in slow speed, full lock situations.

The ZCP rims have a different offset,on stock 220's 255/35R19 rubs...if you want to mislead people here,by all means do.
Like the OP, i experienced the same rubbing on 220's first hand, not based on some google search.

220M: Fronts: 19x8.5 (offset +29) Rears: 19x9.5 (offset +23)

ZCP: Fronts: 19x9 (offset +31) Rears: 19x10 (offset +25)

255/30R19 overall diameter is 25.2".
245/40R18 overall diameter is 25.7".
245/35R19 overall diameter 25.8".
