I'm now curious if I have a similar issue. Until reading this thread I was convinced the Premium Sound option was a waste of money. My E39 540 sound system was much better than my two week old M3's system. Very disappointing. Also frustrated with its limitations compared with the E39's DSP, which allowed for multiple equalizer presets. I also can't figure out if the separate bass and treble controls override the equalizer, or the other way around. Anyone know the answer? Love everything about my M3 except for the sound system.

Damn, new M3s have a lot more problems than the first ones. Geez.

. They complement each other. Play with both until you get the sound you like. My '08 sounds pretty good, and I've had many high-end stereos on my other cars, from Mark Levinson, B&O, etc. I wouldn't rate this the highest, but close, mostly due to being able to manipulate frequencies separately with the equalizer. It only lacks in base, but with the music I hear and at the volumes I hear it, it's plenty adequate, to the point I don't need to mess with them. Good luck. |

Almost one month later:
- Still waiting for woofers to be delivered from Germany... - Multiple errors came up, M3 drives raw,- NO abs, traction, stability, hill assist. ... Tech said all the errors are most likely connected to issue with woofers... (needs re-programming?)

May also be a bad computer and the subwoofer was just the first "symptom".
Three days after tacking delivery of mine I got all kinds of whack codes and the car wouldn't start. They had the car for over a week replacing misc pieces, finally replaced the ECU and car has run great since. Who knows, the electronics with these cars makes me a bit nervous about the longevity of the car.

interestingly all error codes have fixed themselves, car drives as supposed to... hm... I try to drive hard, do some sudden stops,- nothing seems to provoke the codes to come out again...

I wonder if I have the same problem. I have the bass cranked to nearly max just to get some low frequency fill. Definitely not what I expect from an enhanced audio system.
My 99 M3's HK setup absolutely blew this system away. Kind of pathetic. |

Today, I was listening to AM talk and all of a sudden only my front speakers were working. The center console was extremely hot however, I did not smell burning wires. Just a lot of heat. Turned the car off and on, the same.
After a full days work, eight hours later I started the car and the sound system sounded fine. No excessive hear from the center console. Strange. |

you guys clearly do not have your equalizers setup right.
Put treble in the middle Bass at plus 2-3 speakers in middle (no rear/front bias) Keep the lowest frequency bar at +1 Next one at 0 Then each one after that +2, +3, 0, +3,+2. Surround ON Throw on "good feeling" and crank it. Pounds me into my seat with bass. |

I experienced this today.
I had my aftermarket subwoofer out of my car for an autocross. So I was listening to the system stock. Suddenly all the bass dropped out. I was listening to it at medium volume. My EQs are set at the middle. I'm pretty adept with car audio so when I got home I checked a few things. I suspected an amp problem but that has been eliminated because when I plug in my aftermarket sub there is still plenty of signal going to the LC2i. My sub sounds fine. I pulled out the harness from the EPS amp and used a multimeter to check the subs resistance. It gets no reading.. no continuity, no resistance. I'm not sure if that means a blown sub or not honestly. I'm not sure if both subs went out at the same time or if it was one at a time. I do faintly remember moving the balance from left to right a while back and thought the bass may have only been on one side. Not positive though. I don't have a Torx 50 bit for the seats so I will wait to get one tomorrow and pop one of the subwoofer enclosures out and check the sub. Seems odd though. I never heard any distortion, don't crank the bass since I have an aftermarket sub, and was listening at relatively low volume when it went out. I almost wonder if there is a connector that came off of the stock sub or something. Maybe a connector came apart? No resistance reading, no problem with the amp, no distortion, etc, then suddenly no bass? What is going on here? Sounds like no one has had any luck until the subs are replaced. I imagine they are the culprit, but who knows. I am certainly not a stereo abuser so I am confused. |
