Get the GTR, you leave in Seattle, AWD is good for snow
![]() Seriously though, I wouldn't. I guess it depends on your goals and what you're looking in a car... GTR is not my kinda car.

GTR beats the turbo only in MSRP. That's it.

That's not true. The new GTR will beat 997.1 and .2 Turbos at most performance measures. The Turbo S is another story though.

Yeah you might be right. 2012 GTR is something else. But in anyway, not that I drove any of these cars, if the price wasn't the factor, I'd say 911 turbo would be a better car to drive.

If you can swing it, I think you should do it. That's the only cure
Otherwise you will drive yourself crazy and not appreciate your M. The car is amazing. Most people who make negative comments about the car have never driven one. I couldn't be happier with the GTR. Mine is super silver.Basically: GTR. JUST DO IT! Quote:
It will bite at the heels of a turbo S which costs $70,000 more. With a simple tune/exhaust I'm sure it would be a drivers race. There is a Fifth Gear episode where they were compared in a race on the track and the turbo S won by a small margin. I think some of the difference was due to the fact that Tiff Needell was drivng the P car. That guy can drive. If the GTR would have won, Porsche would have had a fit. I had a 997.1tt a couple years ago. I personally think the GTR is more entertaining. It has a lot of character. Last edited by erio; 09-01-2011 at 03:28 PM. |

I read that I'd have to live in North Dakota to be able to afford to own one. No thanks...
I kid. I kid. I did a three year sentence in South Dakota and that was enough for me. My take is that GTRs are stupid fast, but like any car on the track, they take a talented driver to make them work well. Yes, I'm one of those guys who has "beat" GTRs (yes, plural, there were three of them there and I passed them all at one time or another) on the track in my street tire shod E46 M3 (Spring Mountain Motorsports Park, full track). However, I've been smoked by 'lesser' cars than an E46 M3 so it proves nothing other than driver skill makes a big difference on the track. If I had the resources and desire I'd think about a GTR, but I prefer a GT3, so that's what I'd likely end up with. Cars like the GTR are good for all of us. They press the envelop of what can be done and somewhat force the hand of other car makers to match or beat it. Dollar for dollar it is tough to argue with a GTR as a 'good value' supercar. OP: If you want one and have the resources for it then get it. I hope you have a ton of fun with it too!

Keep the M3 and buy the GTR as a 2nd or 3rd car.

997 Turbo S in a heartbeat over a GT-R. What's so appealing about the GT-R is the performance you get for the money. I've promised myself I'll own the 991 Turbo S in a couple of years. Not sure if it'll happen but I sure hope it does.

Is this suddenly a Nissan forum?
The GTR is an ugly plastic serial box car. It's Yamaha vs. Ducati all over again. If you just want to go factory fast then get whatever makes you happy. Maybe Toyota, Honda and Hyundai will jump on the success of the GTR and produce a few more serial box cars for the GTR customers.
