Weight savings

Is there anyway to remove weight from the front of the car? With the battery in the back and wheels don\'t count (it\'s all 4 corners) what can be done to shave weight if at all up front? Searched and it seems most/all are middle of the car on back. For reference here is what I\'ve done, akra exhaust, challenge race trunk, (shaved about 80 lbs) but still want to do moonroof delete (40-60lbs won\'t know for sure till done) and then race seats (again about 40-60 lbs depending). Am going for self made CRT lightweight sedan. Any/all help will he appreciated, and this is MY project and will not be talked into buying a smaller/lighter car so don\'t bother. Am trying to do something unique and think the E90 M platform is an ideal starting point. Thanks again guys

What about replacing exterior oem parts with cf parts? Like the hood or bumper? Not sure how much that would help, but i know my cf trunk weighs a hell of alot less then my oem trunk.

Looked at the hood and it's made of aluminum so don't think I can save much there, everything else that can be CF is (front/side grills, hood vents) and am in about as good of shape as can be so can't lose any weight there either. Am doing a bunch of driver training as well ( driving and driving with many instructors and different cars) just looking at the weight savings right now, but seems to be very limited up front.

one thing is to take the front crash beam off, but then if you get in an accident and your insurance finds out you've removed it, you're in big trouble.

Maybe you can go crazy and re-locate things like alternator...?
Fabricate custom titanium nuts, strut brace, oil pan etc...?

Interesting and potentially pointless. If you have to have M3 as a track car, and you don't care how much money you end up spending, it may be ok. But before you start in this route, I think it would be good to calculate how much money it will cost.. Also it would be good to consider the cost of tracking the M3. It may be better to buy a cheaper-to-run track dedicated car instead of spending 10s of 10000s of $ to mod the M3.

Cool thread. If you doing racing seats it should save around 40lbs per seat (with recaros). That in addition to CF hood are the only 2 weight saving things I can think of up front. Maybe CF bumper but that is $$$$

Let face it. When it comes to unit of energy fossil fuel are most efficient.

So instead of working to reduce weight we are just adding more and more. I have a great idea why not focus on better quality and lowering the price of the vehicle.

You should take out the AC and all the parts that support that system. Think about how much a condenser unit weighs. That is usually one of the things to go on cars that I have seen race-prepped.

Also what about unsprung weight? I was talking to Calvin @ Sonic Motorsports and they are going to be releasing a titanium stud kit sometime and there is a decent savings over normal lugs or other studs. The price point is not even going to be that bad, the only downside is that he didn't have any kind of release date yet, he only had the prototype so far.
