Playing back my recorded videos from iphone.

Ok, I\'ve tried the search function but can\'t seem to fine anything that works. I have a 2011 E92 with BMW Apps. I want to play back video that I\'ve taken with my phone onto the navigation screen. How exactly do I do this. I have the Media cradle.

I don't have BMW Apps, but it seems like they need to be in playlist, not the photo/video library, so have to tried syncing your phone with iTunes, and moving the videos into the "Movies" section of iTunes and see if they show up?

I mean, that is less than optimal, but maybe BMW Apps doesn't support playback from the Photo/Video library of the camera... Just a guess.

Make sure your phone is connected via the MEDIA cradle, then open the iDrive's iPod navigation interface (NOT the new PlugIn interface) and in the little column of buttons on the left you should see a new one that says Video. In there you should see your Video library and any Video playlists.

No, you can only play videos that show up in your iPod section of your phone in the Videos section, i.e. Movies, TV Shows, Music Videos, Video Podcasts, etc. Those will show up in iTunes in sections like Movies, Podcasts, and TV Shows. Videos stored on your camera roll won't work unless you import them to your machine and iTunes accepts it into its Videos section and then you sync it back.

Is there a way to put my recorded videos in that folder? If so, how?

I do use iTunes. But how do I get my recorded videos that are in my photo album in my phone into the video folder so I can view them in my car?

The same way music is added to iTunes... follow the iTunes tutorial.

Connect your phone to your computer, copy the video files off of it (or drag them out of your iPhoto library onto your desktop if you're on a Mac and they were auto-imported, which will create a copy there), then go to iTunes > Movies, then to to File > Add file to Library and select them.

But honestly, are the videos you shot on your phone really worth watching in your car?? I personally can't see the use for video playback at all. It only works when the car is stopped and the handbrake is on anyway -- how much time will you be spending sitting in your car like that? The only thing I use BMW Apps for is iDrive-controlled Pandora.

It's really more for my four year old daughter. It's little videos of her. I mostly use the BMW Apps for Pandora as well, but I think the video thing is a little feature she will like. Thanks for your help.

The videos using iPod Out (BMW Apps) are in 4:3. Your daughter will have a hard time watching that small video from the back seat (4yrs old) and to be honest, they are not that great to watch anyways from the front seat either.

This could interest you... if you have an iPad:

She knows how to use the iPad. I'd rather hand her the iPad so she can use it than do that. Like I mentioned, it's just a little feature I want to try to see if she likes it. I know when using Pandora, I'll pit a Disney station on and she loves the art work. She says my car has Disney.

Thanks JPHUGHAN. I just got all the videos to show up in my video folder under the ipod app on my phone. I'm going to go try it now in my car. I think this should work though. Again, thanks.

Glad to help! Although investigating this on my own car for you led me to discover that video is no longer working on my car! I tried multiple phones and multiple cradles, and still never got video (every other cradle function works fine though), but when I took my cradle and my phone and plugged it into another BMW Apps-equipped car, it worked fine.

The dealer is going to update my CIC software (at the very least it should fix a Pandora bug I've found that doesn't appear on newer cars) but I doubt that will fix it since this worked when I first got my car. The only other possible culprit is my rear view camera, which uses a plug-and-play harness to intercept CIC traffic. I'm not sure that's the cause and honestly I haven't even looked at video since I picked my car up so I have no idea how long this has been broken, but I emailed ModMyNav to see whether they have any ideas. Ah well, as I said I don't really use the video feature so at this point it's just the principle of something being broken and not knowing why.

The problem is your baseplate.

I was wondering about that too, but unfortunately I don't have an easy way to test that, and in any case I'd be surprised if it just spontaneously failed this way especially given that every other cradle function works fine. It still charges, plays music, runs BMW Apps, etc. I'll ask the dealer to investigate that possibility I guess -- hope it doesn't involve too much teardown to replace, and if they do end up doing that I sure hope that fixes it.

The video connection between the baseplate and the CIC is not via USB; 6NR is thru USB, which it is the Combox. Therefore the lack of video regardless of the cradle points towards a disconnection between the baseplate and the CIC.

Just stumbled upon this thread trying to figure out how to watch videos in the car on the nav. Thanks for all the info!

One last question .... has anyone figured out a way to get streaming HBO Go to show up on the Nav Screen? I can get it to stream on my Iphone and have the audio going through the bluetooth but it would be much better on the bigger nav screen.

Also anyone have the correct part # for the cradle for the 4S? I have been wondering why BMW apps has been lack luster, but it seems you need the cradle to get most of the functions.
