Almost ordered a new X5 40d M Sport last month to replace my M3 but at the last minute ordered another M3 - that drive to the dealer to place the order made me think that i'd miss the ///M far too much - i've got 3 kids and could do with a bit more space but you only live once!

To answer your question, PR might be smaller than Connecticut but it has a whole lot more road density than the US and probably more road density than Connecticut, so there's quite a few roads to drive on, many of them mountain roads. http://www.indexmundi.com/facts/indi...IS.ROD.DNST.K2 |

Why didn't you keep the M and get your wife a used minivan?

At least you are staying in the BMW family, and you are not leaving us

To answer your original question, I think you did very well for yourself at a cost of $808 per month for the M3. If you end up hating the X5, you can always try to swap out of that like you did with the M3.

i think your only real choice is too move out to long island
, come to suffoulk (melville, dix hills, Jericho, huntington). Taxes are less, much more land, and i go door to door commute 1 hour 5 minutes each way. Plus i have 3 cars + 1 on the way and still have much more room left. |

Thanks all for the supportive and funny replies...
parking in NYC sucks, but nothing you can do about it. Having a car in NYC is a luxury in itself, so we chose to move to the bigger car. re bugaboo stroller, i hate it, but wife made point of "how can you get yourself a m3 and not get your son the best stroller?" duh, the answer is he's 3 months old, but I pick the battles I want to fight and it just didnt work in the e93. Frankly, id be surprised if fit in an e90, but either way, didnt work. that all said, picked up the x5 today, and the thing has some good power - and torque is very impressive. Ill say, the steering is extremely squashy vs the M and I definitely do not have the confidence to make the exit ramps at M speeds anymore. size wize, however, its like im driving a monster down the road, I can see 10 miles ahead of me, instead of just the car in front, and it's different. I did see a e92 flying by me on 95N and did get choked up a bit... Ill send some pics of my x5 when i take them (if anyone cares), but here is a couple shots I took of my son in our last day in the M. he's unhappy too... btw, in case anyone asks, NO I didnt drive with him top down... ![]()

Thats exactly why parents originally moved my family out. We went to Half Hollow Hills District. Either that or Jericho District would be my choices for kids. I wouldn't go to Nassau IMHO. The difference in travel time if you take the LIRR is 10-20 minutes tops if your on the edge of suffoulk/nassau. But the taxes in Nassau are double, and school districts aren't as good. Also private schools on Long Island (friend's academy) cost about $15-18k i believe and they are top notch.

You are living large anyway dude. Parking can be had much cheaper than $500/mo. $30k year kindergarten is a waste of money. Summer house... WTF, why not 2 cars? Sorry, you sound a bit whipped
![]() Anyway, an M3 cab is just not an ideal car to have if you only have one. You gotta have a sedan at least. Personally, I would never drive an SUV as a primary car. The wife's car, yes, but a minivan will never enter our driveway.

Equating cost with quality is a big mistake. Bugaboos are for being seen with. Maclarens are actually good for using as a stroller for your kid (remind you of someone's favorite car maker?). First off, the Maclarens are incredibly light. They have a model that weighs 10 lbs (probably less than your kid). Bugaboo models weigh 20 lbs or more. For a while you're pushing more stroller than kid. Maclaren's 5-second 1-hand fold claim is no joke. And they fold down into a easy to one-hand carry package. A Bugaboo doesn't fold for crap. I hope you didn't get the X5 just to fit the Bugaboo. Because you know that in 6 months your wife's going to switch to a Maclaren and you'll be kicking yourself. ... but, I hear ya about picking your battles. Good luck with the new car and kid ![]() |
