LOL I just noticed that.. Everyone on my aquarium forum is rocking a cad lights tank. They rate it one of the best all in one tanks.

Im going to switch my tank soon for the new mini 18g or maybe the 22.

LEDS NO HEAT

Can those LED light systems put out enough light to support stony coral? I know I had to go HQI (Halides) and a chiller for my last setup but I would really love to avoid the cost and space of a chiller.

I haven't really read up on them for at least a year now...last I heard, they were still going through testing with them. I'm sure folks have results by now.

I can also see an advantage in the fact that LEDs don't go bad...so I would think there to be a replacement cost saving on top of the electricity.

As for now, I'm still a VHO (440W) / HQI MH (2x250W - 1 400W) reefer with the chiller. Apparently, I love to argue with my wife come 'electric bill' day.

Hey guys im setting up my first tank. already ordered a skimmer, salt, sand. Now i need to decide which kind of live rock i want to get. can anyone recommend a good place that sells it online? anyone have experience buying it online? my local fish store will sell it for $4.10/pound for 85 pounds. Also, is there anything else i need to buy to start up this tank? thanks!

yes less will support lps and sps with no heat . It is the future !

well i buy it in person so i can see what I'm buying. For example.. Most of your rock will be Base rock think of your house here.. Which is the structural part bottom and supporting rock. I buy cheap rock for this and then buy the more expensive rock with nice curves and designs to create caves over hangs things like that.

Yeah, I pick out individual pieces in person. I definitely paid a premium for the privilege ($10/lb) but it was very good stuff and I got some great freeloaders in the process.

Would they sell base rock at the fish store?
And they sell fiji live rock. I will just buy it at the fish store because it would cost $140 in shipping alone if i bought it online

base rock looks like roundish full rock no nice shapes.

Btw all you need now is water rock and and sand.. maybe some hermits or couples snails if u want some movement but they might die so don't spend to much. wait around 2-3 weeks or until its cycled.

I own a store here in Pittsburgh and have sampled a few LED lights before making a decision on which one to stock. We ended up with ReefTech LEDs these are truly one of the best LEDs on the market right now. Go onto their website and under gallery you will see our display tank on there with 2 month growth shots. Some Acropora species have doubled in size during that time. We have these 2 of the prometheus LEDs running at 40% white over the 75 gallon. The PAR values are outstanding, and the light penetration is far better than Metal Halides. If any of you have any reef related questions please feel free to send a PM and ask.

YES Zeros are a huge PIA to keep clean. We had one in the store and the evaporation was crazy! Let alone 99% of the fish jumped out.

I've always done a 6 week cycle. Man, all this talk is REALLY making me want to start back up again... The CAD lights 50g Artisan looks like a beauty... hmmmmm

well depending on where the rock comes from ... I usually get a couple gal from a friend to speed up the process and I never had a large saltwater only fresh. could be 6 weeks

cad lights reviews are very high. go led if not you will kick your self later.

Ok, I guess between August if last year and Today, I turned into an old fart.

My newts just laid a gazillion of eggs and I moved the adults into the new 20Gal. I am going to re-use old 10Gal tank for a nano reef, as soon as I get rid of all the newt babies.
