Autocar confirmation of M-DCT

-7 gear, dual clutch
-Almost imperceptible shifts
-A "couple tenths" of off the 6MT 0-60

Very cool,

I just wished this was offered at the beginning of the production. Also, the SMG was already fairly expensive, so I do not even want to think about the price of this new system.

If it goes into production in March, does this mean first M3s with the system will arrive in June?

As I guessed 2 1/2 months ago: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=56941. My reasoning was that it plenty robust enough, already on the market and by a manufacturer that BMW has used.

You nailed it! But what were the real possbillities? The only ones were:

-Getrag
-ZF
-BMW in house (extremely unlikely)

This isn't news. The info was distributed to dealers at least one month ago. Autocar have a habit of rehashing old news just to fill pages, and also stating the obvious. What is on there that wasn't already known?

I would say that both the Getrag as supplier and the couple of tenths off the 0-60 are both NEW pieces of the M-DCT puzzle. Correct me if I'm wrong.

No. It's been widely known that Getrag have been working on a double clutch gearbox for BMW for a while.

And a couple of tenths of the 0-60 is one of the benefits of using a double clutch gearbox so I see no surprise here.

actually, this i believe is the first time it has been "confirmed" by a reputable source. b/f was just a lot of speculation and guessing correctly.

It should be pointed out that the Getrag DCT is not particularly light at 174 lbs dry--I'm guessing a 50 lb. penalty over the manual. That must be factored into the acceleration times.

Let's hope the weight penalty is less than that. Straight-line accelleration will improve due to shorter shift times AND the shorter gearing allowed by a 7-speed (vs. the 6-speed manual).

1/4 mile in low 12s at 114 I'd say.

The DSG version of the Golf V GTI is also abt 50lbs more but still it runs faster than the manual version from 0-100km, so 50lbs for the E92 M3 won't be sigificant.

Autocar are not a reputable source, although in this case what they're saying is probably true. Autocar are known to just make stuff up just to sell magazines.

The normal Auto's also have a oil pan at the bottom of the transmission.
It has nothing to do with the oil being lifetime fill
