Will it be daily driven? How many miles? If you don't mind refilling gas often at the pump, then no question, the M. If you want the power, still a fun ride but not as much hurt at the pump? The 335is.

Livin' the M life

To assume someone buys a certain car because they can't afford another is a bit ignorant and arrogant (especially if you are an owner of the car you are claiming they can't afford). I understand what you are trying to get at, but I think it's a bit classless to make a statement like that.

As a current 335 guy, my unbiased answer. You really have no choice, M3 all the way!! Don't make the same mistake I did. As much as I love my 335, once I drove an E90 M3, I knew that I had given myself the short end of the stick, by not test driving both before buying.

Mmmmm 335is sounds to me like a bee, not sure how to cope with that, just for the exhaust note M car all the way.
335is is just not a M-Power car, plus it has 335is plaster everywhere so you do not forget you bought it instead of an M.

My point is, only pick the 335"is" (note we are talking about the IS) if money is a factor, so items like gas or price. If you've ever spent any time in a 335IS you would understand, I love the 335 cars - hell I fight for them in other threads. But if you go head to head with a 335is and an M3, there is NO good justification for choosing the 335is vs. the M3 other than financial ones. In performance, interior, look, feeling, heritage, sports, the M3 trumps the 335IS. |

Wow. Have you ever driven a 335 or M3? I have owned both and they are not "a little better than the other" regarding anything. They are WORLDS apart. Say what you want on which you'd prefer. Certainly, I loved both. But to assert they're a hair's difference in performance and feel is just mind-boggling.

My wife wanted a new E coupe. Sure we could afford an E550. But since she drives putt-putt 4 miles to work and doesn't have a concept of WOT, there's no reason to get her the V8. We bought the E350, saved money on the car, and continue to save money at the pump. She gets all the luxury and safety she wants AND we save a few bucks. Everybody wins.

I have an acquaintance who owns a 458 and Mulsanne among others, but drives a hydrogen Honda every day to the office. The guy could daily-drive a Veyron if he wanted. Maybe it's a maturity thing. For many people, there comes a point when you don't need to be driving the most expensive car you can afford at all times, or even at all. And higher cost doesn't mean higher performance.

People who think that everyone drives the most expensive car they can afford tend to be people who are driving the most expensive car they can afford.
