HELP AGAIN! 335is or M3

Depends what you want from the car. The M3 is a precision tool and a backroad carver while the 335iS is more of a light to light king.

OP, that color combo looks awesome on the 335is, but I think you are mixing the two things up a bit... You can get the color combo you want in an M too. You might have to wait though...

i had the 335iS dct coupe and within 3 months i regretted my decision and got a 2011 e92 m3 6mt. happy to have made the switch!

M3, you'll never know if you don't. More 3 series drivers are looking at M's than the other way around. Trust me I've had both cars.

hey guys so i got the service history of the m3 and here are the things I'm worried about, but not sure if its normal...

1) Gear selector switch (lever) incorrect/ incomplete reading (23,609km)
2) Idle regulating alve permanent malfunction (21,468km)
3) E8x E9x US programming control modules (DKG control module) (16,158km)
4) Cylinder head oil filter cover leaking (486km)

I know all cars have random problems all the time, but just wanted to make sure its clean. Im assuming the programming control was for the double clutch lag? Thanks a lot guys for all the help

Nine both cars are the same price since the m3 is used, and both are within my price range

Glad you liked the humor. My wife's is a 2010, so it hasn't had that many issues, but all of friends that have anything older than an 09 would tell you that I was being a little too optimistic. Anyway, they're all great cars. Good luck.

335is is really boring.. I drove it.. yawn.
Get the m3. I call it "doing the right thing".
That said if all you care about is numbers and luxury, the 335is is perfect for you.

Also ICV failures are fairly common on ALL BMWs but they are really nothing to be concerned with. In fact none of those M3 service items are dealbreakers to me, they are all fairly minor.

I just sold my 335i and got myself an M3. Theres no comparison. i dont care what you do to a 335 (i had catless DPs, JB4, Stett intake) it will never match the driving experience and overall feel of quality that the M3 brings to the table even in stock form. I loved my 335i. It was fast and def. more torque down low and gave you that "slingshot" feel. But the M3 is so smooth so fast in tight spaces and the LSD makes it way more fun to drive. The quality of Leather and interior materials especially with the Extended leather was a nice upgrade for me as well. Basically i used to be happy with my 335i, but when i get home in my M3 i'd bang it in the exhaust if it wasn't so hot. Its that much better. Just get the M3 basically is what i'm getting at....

The whole m3 vs 335 argument is an exercise in splitting some really long hairs.

Each has a few things it does a little better than the other.
M3 will be a little more entertaining.
335 will be more forgiving when you're stuck in traffic or going on a road trip.

M3 also has the "woot I have an M3" aspect, that the 335 doesn't come with. As is with anything that can double as a status symbol.

I could probably argue until the end of the day, but what I was hoping for is the outcome that if you're going for the 335"is" - a sports version of the 335i, the only reason not to upgrade to an M3 should be for financial limitations, otherwise only a fool would subscribe/pay the premium ofa 'sports' model of the 335i and not purchase the pinnacle of the sports of the 3 series line the M3. If a sporty car is your goal, of the two the M3 is winner.

Also, I think you are over generalizing the M3 and 335i, to a naive person they may appear very similar, but they are very different, different interior, engines, transimission, bodys and so on. While the outcome or final numbers might be close, how they attain them are VERY different.

'is' vs m3, I would agree. So close to M3 price that you might as well go with the M3. Unless you just prefer the mileage and it's 'sporty enough'.

Compare the 335 and m3 to a civic, and they're both rockets, and they both look essentially the same.

Compare the 335 and m3 to a m600, and they're both sloths, and they [still] both look essentially the same.

Compare the 335 to the m3, and all of a sudden, the m3 is a rocket, and the 335 is a sloth (stock for stock), and you can pick out trim pieces to differentiate the looks.

The fact remains, no other car is more similar to an m3 than a 335, and no other car is more similar to a 335 than an m3.
By definition, you're talking trim packages of the same vehicle.
The only way to make them meaningfully different, is to limit yourself to comparing between only them.
As soon as other cars get involved, the differences shrink to details.

M3 DUDE. Sported up 335 or an M3? This decision should take about 2 seconds. DONE. You have a chance to own the M3 your kids will be asking about.

Name 1 reason of how the 335is is a better car than an M3? MPG is about it.
