Want to clean my engine bay (E90 M3)

It's filthy here in Colorado - lots of dust under there. I'd like to clean the bay. I've read about covering up "important parts" but does anyone have a photo of what I need to cover ("all the electrical parts" isn't specific enough), and/or suggestions on how to cover it? I've heard tin foil, wax/saran wrap, rags, etc...

Cover the intake hole on the drivers side so your not spraying water down it. Other than that it should be fine haven't done anything else and I clean it regularly with no issues.

Does water collect in the underpanel trays? or are there drains in them?
