Who did you send a message to? I know the Engineering & Marketing Manager's there and it doesn't seem like they would for 20 people interested... Couple of my friend's know the owner real well. Unless he gets a M3 himself, it's not going to be in the cards unfortunately probably. I'll ping my friend there again.... but very very doubtful.

I would DEFINITELY buy one if it was introduced for ~$1000. Or would the market be too small? I know these are questions I should be asking COBB; and I may depending on responses from this thread. Maybe if enough people chime in interest, they will do something for us? Or maybe someone here is hooked up?

Here are the main features which interest me:

1) No need to send in ECU for tuning

2) Change maps based on new mods you buy, instantly.

3) Conveniently data log sensor values for up to 10 hours

4) Measure 0-60mph time, 60 foot and 1/4 mile ET's, Trap Speed and dyno simulation tool

5) Read engine trouble codes to diagnose issues. Clear them when resolved.

6) Once the AccessPORT is uninstalled, it can be installed on a different vehicle of the same make/model/year. Since the AccessPORT can be uninstalled, combined with the ability to update the AccessPORT firmware via the internet, it retains a high resale value.

Please COBB, DO SOMETHING FOR US!!
There are tools available already which do almost everything on the above wishlist.

The tune itself is of great importance and there are companies who have a huge amount of experience with the MSS65 control unit and how to extract power from the S65 engine safely. Cobb may well be able to provide a great tune also but it would take some time most likely as they would want to go through a complete development process rather than just using someone else's tuning or even start with someone else's tuning. Pretty serious bunch of guys.

For example, we have an end user tool called the evolve-R.
You do need a laptop to make it work but it is relatively cheap with the following features:

1) ECU write time of less than 45 seconds.
2) You can have an infinite number of tunes sent to you instantly and you can keep them.
3) The cost of the unit is very low in price so you don't really have to worry about resale value. Even if you do move cars you get a good discount off the next unit
4) Datalogging features are being incorporated
5) Read/Clear DTC are being incorporated
6) 4/5 will be available as a free software update when they are released
7) You get a full range of tuning available to you including stock car, HFC delete, Akrapovic specific tune, intake modifications and supercharged software. Also for different fuel grades.

The only thing we will not be able to do in the near future is the performance datalogging.

As mentioned before, the most important thing is the tuning itself.

Guys we have officially launched our remote tuning device. If you are looking for a higly developed tune but want the convenience of doing it at home, we have now launched our evolve-R unit.

We offer a 100% money-back guarantee if you are not completely satisfied with our product or tune.

Cobb also supplies software (Accesstuner Race) for tuners in your area to tailor a protune for your altitude, car, etc. The best way, IMO, to start using a Cobb unit is to begin with the OTS tune and use a local guy to tweak it. Or go protune altogether. The Accessport can still be used to easily switch maps.

No offense @ Evolve-R; but your system is not quite as seamless as Cobb's, and considerably more expensive. Furthermore, Accessport's come with various other maps including a Valet mode that a user can switch to in a pinch. I'm not advocating Cobb here, just saying it's quite a bit more advanced in terms of user-friendliness.

All that said, Cobb deals primarily with turbo tuning. Doubt we will see an S65 unit. Furthermore, I'd be concerned as many Cobb OTS tunes are pretty crappy and tend to create engine knock among other issues right out of the box. I experienced a good amount of knock in my STi with a Stage 1 OTS Cobb tune.. required a good amount of tweaking to improve it. I'd be worried about an S65 OTS Cobb tune. Just my 2c.

No offence taken

I'm sure you appreciate the time and investment that goes into producing these things. We are ECU tuners, the unit is a means to get our tune to you guys.

Cobb don't make a unit for the S65 so we can't really compare.

The Cobb unit is great, but the concept behind our unit is the ability to tune a multitude of cars.. not just the one. We are adding more all the time.

Also, I'm not sure where you got the idea we are 'considerably more expensive'? Cobb only tune for 2 models:

335i
Cobb: $899
Evolve: $750

Mini Cooper S:
Cobb: $899
Evolve: $750

We are cheaper for both.

Again, I could not knock Cobb at all, they have a great product with the Accessport, but we have taken a different approach and are playing on our strengths, which is the tuning itself.

My mistake. I *ass*umed the price of the N54 unit would be similar to their other products (in the $700 range) where as your S65 product is $1000. As you mentioned, this is not the case, which puts you on-par if not better value for the actual tune given that it's essentially a semi custom protune.

I'm really only speaking to the user friendliness and ease-of-use of an Accessport and why the Evolve-R may not fill that gap as required by the OP. Strictly independent of tune quality.

That said I *do* knock the OTS tunes from Cobb and I really wish they'd come with a disclaimer for regions with different climate/atmospheric conditions than where their OTS tune is developed. What I'm trying to say here is, buyer beware--when it comes to any OTS tune.

No problem Sure you understand our need to want to clarify that point.

Sorry for off-topic, but what Mini Cooper S does Evolve tune? R56? And can you disable CEL triggered from catless setup? If so, I'll pass this along to my friend.

Hi! Yes, we tune the R56 (we have our own development R56, check out minitorque.com/mini2 forums) and can delete the CEL, increase rev limit, remove top speed limiter and adjust throttle mapping.

We also produce our own products for the Mini that will be launched very shortly, including a fantastic performing FMIC, catted/decatted downpipes and full exhaust system.

A tweet from Cobb basically suggests an S65 version isn't going to happen, and they are instead looking forward to the F3x M3 (tri-turbo application).
