New or used M3?

Hello everyone, I'm on the verge of picking up an M3 (possibly today) but I cant decide on whether to go new or used. I can get an 09 pretty much fully loaded with 23k miles for a pretty good price right now or I can order a new '11 with either ZCP or premium pkg also for a good deal, but have to wait the usual 6-12 weeks. Any advice on what I should do? I'd like to pull the trigger on one of these today.

I'd go low option new car, fresh warranty. FYI there is a used '11 in the FS section for $54k

I faced the same decision and decided to go new. I was a bit worried about how a used M3 may have been used by the previous owner. Was it tracked? Did he really like launch control?

With a new car you don't have to worry about abuse and you can get exactly what you want. If you can afford new it is a safer option. I normally buy cars a year or two old to avoid some of the initial depreciation, but decided to buy new for the first time in 9 years this time around.

To me new one is only for status. Many of my friends got their first new car and regretted

It is a philosophical question, really.

The best financial choice is likely the used one, but there are "unknowns".

There is a special satisfaction of getting one that was always "all yours".

What is there to regret about a brand new M3?

Depends if you are planning on getting another car in a few years if so just lease a new one otherwise probably better getting a loaded 09. You will have all your features and the warranty will have another 2 years plus you can always pay for a extended which I think is 4K which is still going to be a lot of savings on a new one. Unless you really don't care about features then I guess you could get a new one..

Get a new m3 and drive it for 2000 miles then go to dealer to check the trade in price. My friend sold me his e92 m3 fully loaded with dct at $50000. The only reason he sold it to me at decent price because he asked plenty of dealers and they are only paying around 60-70% of the msrp. That was a 09 m3 with 8000 miles. He was tring to sell it in 2010

I had the same dilemma but I went with new, it was only about 8k more for a 2011. There is something about sitting behind the wheel of a new m3 knowing your the first one that's gonna rip into it. The only advice I would give you is watch out for the 1200 mile break in, it is brutal not being able to rinse your car on an empty road. Good luck brotha!

You experience the most $ depreciation on the new car, but if you keep it for a long time it is possible that you beat the curve of the 2009 since ZCP will be in higher demand as well as newer.

If you are thinking short run, (~3 years) I'd go with pre-owned, you can potentially get a loaded, car that feels new for a great price.

i always bought new car before but not now. Lost too much money and found out that whatever rare car it is, M or AMG, depreciation is more then a regular Merc, BMW

Why would I pay $$$ to get a brand new M3, drive it for 2000 miles and try to trade it in or sell? I buy cars to drive for a while, or until they're too expensive to fix. Don't tell me your friend got tired of his new M3 after only 2K miles. If he really did, the depreciation loss probably doesn't faze him.

If money was not a consideration, the OP would not be asking the question. I bought a CPO M3 for 72% of its price new. I would be not be much happier if I had paid 28% more since I got the colors and most of the options I wanted and over 3 years of new/CPO warranty.

You just don't do that....

If you plan to keep the car for a while, buying new is better for 2 main reason IMO:
1) it's 'yours' thus you have the entire maintenance history and know the ins and outs.
2) Longer warranty

If you purchase used make sure it is certified at a BMW dealership. If you purchase a used private then insist to have it checked out at a good BMW
dealership. If you do then you will know what is in the near future what has to be attended to etc. It will also give you a better bargaining position for the price you pay.

Keep in mind that a BMW is build for high speeds on the autobahn and a 23K milage is hardly broken in, provided you have it checked out and the car was not abused.

If you purchase new ... well then you will know what you get a 5 to 50 miles on the clock and a brand new car. Only you will need patience until it arrives unless you find a new one in a showroom having all you need and like
