For those of you with VMR Matte Black Wheels

Hey all,

I have had VMR 710 19 Matte Black wheels on my car for the better part of 8 months now and had a question for a couple of you guys with Matte Black VMRs on their car.

I am in the process of getting my M3 here pretty soon and have really fallen in love with aftermarket wheels, even more so after seeing the Official Modified M3 thread.

The matte black finish on the VMRs are awesome when you first get them, but no matter how much you clean these things after a good period of time it is hard to get them to stay the deep black they are originally. I am very diligent about cleaning my car and wheels but over time it is almost as they have faded. I have resorted to using a light coat of armor all to get them the deep black again, but that method only lasts a week, if that.

I am not sure if other wheel companies are different that offer matte black finishes, but I wanted to get some insight on how other people upkeep the Matte VMR finish.

Thanks for any input!

- Bryan

VMR wheels are known for having quality issues relative to finish... i.e. you get what you pay for. You could always get a similar style wheel but with arguably better quality where the finish may hold up better long term.

For example...

yeah i have had mine a while and agree they are a little dull but not bad especially at the price. i think its partially the matte rather a gloss finish.

Dull was the word I was looking for, I agree them being great for the price, just wish the finish was a little more resistant for someone who uses them as a daily driver.

I never liked gloss black on a jet black/black car. Most of the guys that end up blacking out the gills/trim, etc. will do it with matte black parts, wouldn't only make sense to make wheels matte too, yeah?

If you wanted to see what it would look like for kicks, just clean one of your wheels well and put some tire shine on it, will look like the shinier deep black like they were when new.

Interesting! I was planning on matte black VMR 19" wheels sometime down the road but if they dull after a short time, I may have to reconsider.

What about the gloss back wheels from VMR? I'm not looking to blow $$$$$ on wheels so the VMR's seem to fit the bill.

I'm having this "dull" problem on my matte black APracing calipers. Kinda the same issue I guess. Haven't found any way to get them looking new again.

OP, hope you find a good product to get those wheels looking new again. If you do, post your find for us. Good luck!

Cheers,
Rob
