Rattle behind left A/C vent. Pushing up on the soft plastic of the upper section of the dash stops it. Holding, pressing, turning the vent itself does nothing.
The trim around it popped loose at one point. Dealer replaced the trim with new piece. Now the rattle is even worse. It's like there's a screw rattling around in the hard plastic of the vent duct. Argh! |

I don't consider 12k miles a lot of miles. I'm thinking that after about 20-25k miles, all these cars will get some rattles.

My E90 M3 rattled after 30 miles.
So did my brand new E36 M3. No other performance sedan I've had did this. Each brand has its own quirks. No huge problem but rattles are annoying and somehow other brands keep them at bay. |

Well I just about accepted that my car will have rattles and have given up until 2 days ago the car developed a brand new rattle. Normally, my 10 other rattles occurs when the car drives over rough roads but this new one that came up is a constant rattle/buzzing sound that sounds like it's coming from behind the ac/radio panel but when I had my brother sit in the passenger side listening with a stethoscope, he located the sound somewhere below the glove box under the dash...this is the most annoying of all rattles because it is Constant over any road surface.
So I'm goin in for this one on Monday. Appt made and I will report back. I've got so Many rattles that it really can't get any worse so I'll let them have a crack at it. Will report back here. |

If u remove the entire nav piece and screen, u will notice that the entire back side is padded with insulating material. There is no way that pastic piece is making the sound. it's all padded back there. The engineers thought of this. It's the sound boucing around and acoustics That make it sound like it's coming from there but it's really something else. I had this too and when I tightened the. Screws really tight, it went away but could have been a coincidence

Thought I had rattles for a while, but recently discovered it's actually the rear differential problem. From the interior, always sounded like a creaking/rattlle noises.
Appt on Fri to swap out the fluid...hopefully that fixes it.

Rattles started for me after an exhaust, they come and go. Drivers side door, dash/navi. Drives me insane sometimes.

I have only had one rattle in mine and it came from the center speaker area, it was fixed with a loving slap. Otherwise I guess I'm fortunate with 36k miles and pothole riddled LA roads

No rattles are not normal. All my old japanese cars were rock solid; old maxima, old honda accord, old lexus, etc.
Didn't the M3 manual say something about how the drivetrain is connected to the chassis may cause more vibration than you may be used to? aka, rattle? I'm going to have to double check this at home... |
