hmmm
one possibility...most likely wrong so don't destroy me -even though both the e90 and e92 are similar in the front, there might be a small fitment difference so just to keep things organized, they put the M on the e92 to differentiate in case they needed to replace the hood on anyones car

Interesting. The thing is, the hoods are different anyway due to the differences in the area around the back of the rear fender, the front of the door, the windshield, and the A-pillar. I notice the coupe hood has a bump-out (the part with M3 stamped on it) in the back while the sedan hood does not. Maybe the reason the sedan hood does not have the bump-out is because the sedan hood is slightly lower in back and there's not enough clearance? In any case, without that, there's no place to stamp the M3 logo, I don't think. It appears that the surface seen in that area on the sedan hood is actually the same surface that makes up the exterior of the hood. So, if I am right about that (and I might not be), if you stamped it, it would show on the outside. Hence the sedan does not have it.

I have not seen a M3 sedan in person yet but looking at the photo's there does seem to be a slight difference around the gas strut connection there is a ridge/indent on the coupe and not the sedan.
But could you tell me does the sedan also get the aluminium hood the same as the coupe or is it steel?

Construction looks different. I could bet cash money that hood is steel, vs aluminum for the E92, which is obviously the sportier model (same deal with the CF roof, so don't shoot me
