Career choice.

Hey guys I currently own a 07 335i and am looking to migrate to a m3 after college. The question I have is, what careers do most people do on this site to be able to afford a m3, i've always had pretty good grades and both of my parents are well educated. I am just a little confused about what to do with my career choice. Unfortunatly, it comes down to money over actually liking my career, but that is just my personality.

Thanks much

Derin

Sales. Every step of the way you are selling in life. Believe it or not, you are experienced in sales, even if its subconsciously. Good salesman make a lot of money. Great salesman make a shitload more.

Its not a niche industry where you need education in the field to get into, which makes it feasible for many.

Personally, I don't know how anyone else’s career choice is going to affect how you choose yours. You are going to be most successful going off of your own skill set rather then trying to fit into someone else’s because it makes more money.

IMO, if you are chosing your future career on the basis of how much you can make to get an M3, you are making a serious mistake. Chose something you like to do, and makes you feel good about your yourself. You will spend a lot of years working, you may only be interested in a certain car for a few years.

Career is long term, cars are not. Good luck.

I work at a gas station.

Figure out what you want to do, then worry about how to make the most money doing it.

At the very least, explain whether you prefer the arts or the sciences Or, if you're in college, what classes you are taking.

My number one recommendation is to get into a career that you enjoy. If you are able to do something that you enjoy chances are you will be very good at doing it which in turn should bring in more money for you. The thing I am most passionate about is cars and anything else that pretty much relates to engineering (planes, trains, electronics, etc etc). If I could do it all over again I would probably become an engineer even though I would probably make less money. The other great thing to do is get into your own business. If you must know what I do, I am a dentist and let me tell you that working for a company or someone blows. I'm very happy that I finally am just about done in terms of purchasing my own practice!

I hate going to work in the morning, but I love what I do. I couldn't imagine what it would be like if I hated my career. PunjabiM3, I'm a dentist too.. well, an orthodontist if that counts..

Dude, wage-slave is not the way to go. Someone here has a great sig. It says: "Find something that you love to do, then find someone who'll pay you for it."

I love to fly. Uncle Sam pays me to fly US Naval aircraft. After 3 deployments and an overseas post in Bahrain, I'll be taking delivery of an M3. When I'm a stockbroker later (love to trade), I'll look into Ferrari's after retirement is paid for.

Pay your dues, invest in yourself and your education in practical skills, and don't expect M3's to drop in your lap right out of school doing something you hate. It's not how it works.

Sales is where its at!!

I highly recommend getting into sales of some type. Its a lot of pressure but if you have a lot self decipline you can be successful. Plus a lot of sales jobs let you work from home and most jobs have you traveling a bit which I think is a good thing. I do agree that you should do what you enjoy but if money is an import factor for you sales is a good career to get into. Like you I am very money motivated plus I really enjoy selling as well. For me its a win win situation.

This is the answer, I think. If I could sleep in an extra hour every day, I'd be the most content person ever

As such, I change my recommendation. Find a job that lets you sleep in. Then worry about whether you like it and the compensation.

Priorities.

I am an IT Consultant too.
I agree with everyone that you should focus on your own interests and decide what kind of work will help you succeed and keep you happy at the same time!!
I would say you still have time till 2012 to buy new V8 m3's so focus on your career now and enjoy the 335i in the mean time!

+1 you'll get paid doing what you love, and if you do it enough, you can probably afford an m3 and get more business because you'll be real fast driving from one customer to the next.

Seriously though man, it's more satisfying if you actually love what you do, that way you will strive to be the best at it and not just get bored, eventually, you might be doing well enough to afford any car you want.

close enough.

It is one of the best bits of advice I have ever been given, something that I wish more people could take to heart.
