5DC2 Speed Sensor Right Rear

I have been intermittently getting the ABS, hill start assist, DSC warning lights on my dash. I only get the warning lights at highway speeds, and goes away after a minutes or so. It does't seem to happen every time, but more frequently as of late.

I scanned the car, and got a 5DC2 speed sensor code. It looks like its either the speed sensor, wheel bearing, or even the wiring going from the sensor to the can bus. Has anyone seen a similar issue before? Should I try to blindly replace the sensor first or bring it into the dealership. I'm hoping to avoid a 4 figure repair bill if possible.

Yes, I had this as well. Being under warranty I did not pull the codes, simply brought it to the dealer. It was the right rear wheel speed sensor...

If you are no longer under warranty, try the wheel sensor first or find a good indy shop. No reason to pay dealership prices.

Look here http://www.kneb.net/bmw/E46/DSC%20Code%20chart.pdf.

I doubt it's the RR wheel speed sensor. You could try and swap R to L and vice-versa and see if the code follows. If it does, then spend the money.

Closing the loop on this, turns out it was a RR wheel bearing. ~800 dollars from the dealership.
