HELP! Identification Error
I messed up trying to modify my M3. I tried to install the BMW Performance Steering Wheel V2. I could not get the wheel to work so I had the dealership install the coding for the steering wheel. That didn't work, the PSW never received any power. When the dealership installed the coding, they cleared my G-Power software from my DME. I towed my car back home and removed the PSW myself. The I removed the ECU to send to G-Power in Germany. As I was doing my research, I found out I could get the G-Flash software and install the software myself. So then, I put the ECU back into the car and connected the battery back. When I powered the on, the windshield wipers starting wiping and wont stop. The Navigation system thinks it's still at the dealership. I connected the G-Power wire to the OBD2 port and it cannot recognize the ECU. I keep getting an error that states the software cannot recognize the vehicle identification. I checked my software with G-Power and they told me I using the correct software. Can anyone help? I think the dealership did something wrong when they coded my car for the PSW and the recall.

Did u update the G-flash drive ?
Hook the g-flash to your computer fist and make sure the driver is installed properly before you connect it to the OBD port. |

Download this and try: http://www.bpmsport.com/BPMFlash_Install.exe. It's the latest version an will work with your Gflash cable.
Nothing the dealer could program should be able to stop it from communicating with your DME. I would check the battery voltage with a volt meter. If ok and you are still having communication issues, you might have an issue with the junction box. |

I concur w/checking the battery. Recently, while installing some electrical components, I experienced the majority of the issues that you described, and I had the charger connected the whole time, as well. The giveaway was when I tried to start the car and it wouldn't turn over. After I let the car sit and after the battery charger indicated that the battery was charged, everything cleared up.

I checked the battery, the car will turn over. I checked all fuses in the junction box and Im getting 12 volts solid. I am going to take it back to the dealership and have all the PSW coding removed. The BMPSport Flash is not recognizing my ECU. I plugged a data logger and its not seeing the ECU either. But the car will turn over. Runs like crap, though. Only turned it over to test battery.

I wasn't aware that the PSW required coding - rather, I think it just connects to the appropriate wires and pulls the information it needs over CAN. |
