Leaving the M3..RS5 or Cayman S?
Got a real dilemma on my hands guys. Not sure which car to go with. Just curious to hear everyone's opinion on here. I can't drive the RS5 because my dealership doesn't have one but I can put a refundable deposit on a black/black one that could be here next Friday (28th)
I know they are both completely different cars but I'm just wondering what current M3 owners would choose. (After their M3s of course ) If another car should be considered, please leave it in the comments. (Please limit to cars that are 2012-Newer, less than 10k miles, and price wise ~85k) It doesn't have to be a DD, but it can be. Doesn't really matter. Thanks

Cayman s is a much better car! RS5 is and AWD copy of the m3 basically.

^Great suggestion of a used GT3. I think Cayman is a much better option than the RS5. Not an Audi hater at all but I'm assuming you are looking for a considerable change from the M3.

Yeah how about a a 981 Cayman or a 987 R? If I were switching from my E92, this would be my choice.

wow, this is a really tough one. I like both cars. Today I favor the RS5, but hell, everytime I see the new Cayman bodystyle, I fall in love and my M3 just doesn't look as good anymore...

both are impressive, but I didn't find the RS5 to feel as good as the M3 so it would be a lateral move. Cayman would be a completely new thing, better handling, lighter, but less power. I just saw a new Boxster the other day and was very impressed, finally has a look of its own.
All that being said, agree with SROC - get a good used GT3 at that price if you can find one.

Definitely go with the 981 Cayman S. I was in a dilemma a few weeks ago to get the new Cayman or an M3. In the end i decided on the M3 only because i need the back seats.
Once you test drive the new Cayman it will be very hard to not buy it! Its that good. |

What is the purpose for your next car? What stuff do you like to do with your car? Why are you getting rid of the M3?
We are of no help until you provide us with more info about your situation.

like those said above, rs5 is an awd m3 copy...a bad copy
i drove around an rs5 for a couple days and its terrible. turns i would be taking at 65 in my m3 i was maxing out on at 55 in the rs5. it doesnt pull as hard, the awd weight is really noticable, downshifts arent as nice, and steering is extremely loose the rs5 interior is pretty cool though but preformance > interior best part of the rs5 is its spoiler cant really say much about cayman s however it seems pretty good. for sure cayman S or keep your m3 |

I voted for neither because both those cars would be more of a lateral move (could slight upgrade or downgrade vs. M3 depending on how you look at it).

i agree with this 100%. My next car will have to be leaps and bounds above the M3's level for me to switch away from the M3. IMO, the M3 is a great value for what you get (discounting the Z06 of course)

thanks for all your input guys. no used GT3s.. i would rather want a new car if im forking over that much dough
no real purpose, i guess a fun car. i could dd it, doesn't matter. I would like to occasionally take it to an autocross but it probably won't happen for awhile. getting rid of my m3 so someone else could enjoy it. i hardly drove it because i was so anal about it. i figured with my next car i would try and be less anal.

Drove both. Cayman hands down. The RS5 is cool but it feels like its missing something on the track. It also has that platforms understeer issue. The Cayman S is really in a different class but it's also more expensive after options.

IMO if you don't care what people think( my youth talking ). get the Cayman S . its the car you get when you cant afford the 911s ( the way lots see it) .... its also doesn't even look that great, very small not very masculine car either. but hell its a great performer... personally i like more than just performance.
The RS5 is bigger, V8, more aggressive styling... Its one of audis top cars... Ok it may not be as good as a performer as the Porsche. Buts its still good. |

I have an idea. Why don't you just do a couple mods to your M3 and maybe even wrap it a new color and it will seem like a new car and you won't have to be so anal about it either.
