M3 engine break-in

I just got the E93 BMW M3 Conv and have a dilemma with the break-in procedure.
The manual says not to exceed 5500 rpm and 106 mph for the first 1200 miles. Now I read elsewhere that if I push it hard early I will end up with a better performing engine as the mechanics sets in place and gets tailored to the way it's driven early on. This performance would be to the expense of health/longevity which is probably what BMW aims for.

Any thoughts or comments on that? How would you break it in?
Thanks
