As for the dealers, like others said they do get a kick back of around 3-5% for every car they sell and even more if they are able to sell more than a certain of cars per month. The latter half of your statement is a little far from the truth in NY/NJ/CT. Really tough sell at couple hundred under MSRP people expect atleast a thousand or two off.
