I also believe in win or spin, but that (spinning) should only happen once or twice per season. If the MDM is constantly kicking in, I guarantee you, then you losing time. That's not the fast way around.

It's not about being brave, it's about being smart. No matter what this guy says, there's always a little pucker factor when you're going into a 62 mph kink at 70 mph. Also, at the end of a long slalom, when oscilation starts to grow, getting a little inside rear brake at just the right time can be VERY useful. With a 100% win or spin attitude, you either slow down to catch it, or spin. Neither is fast.

Win or spin is an approach that a novice should avoid. It really does slow you down and when you spin two or three times per event you come off looking like a dickhead. Your right foot should have a direct line to your brain. If it seems that your penis is directing your right foot, then you're doomed to be slow.

Win or spin comes into play as an advance autocrosser is competing with the elite of his or her club, trying to gain a final hundreth. There are times where risks are worth taking, particularly if you've laid down a solid first run. I find that kinks, slaloms and trail braking into U-turns are incredible opportunitities to let it hang out to gain time. Just realize that 10-10ths and too fast are very close together.
