E39 M5 In Australia is still worth $40,000 AUD, $39,717.95 USD, 24,862.90 GBP, why is that??

I always admired the e39 M5. In 1998 I bought a 98 E39 528i Sport although not the fastest car, very capable and drove excellent. IMHO E39 was one of the best BMW models ever made. Top 5 of all the BMW's I have owned.
