I think he was completely out of gas and filled it with diesel. I filled about $38 and that got me about 60 litres (15 gallons). He said he put in about $35 worth...so about 13 gallons.
He did make it to the exit (100 ft) so I guess it used the rest of the gas that was in the system and then it just stopped.
