Yes, totally normal. I would add that the sensor should go in the angled valve hole at the edge of the wheel. If it is mounted to the hole that goes straight down into the barrel of the wheel, it will be nearly impossible to mount a tire without breaking the sensor. The body of the sensor should be pretty flat against the wheel when installed.

thanks for the info. the only thing i see being a P.I.T.A is unlike the rim in the pic above mine do not have a hole in front of the face of the rim in which i can route the angled vavle stem. so to put air in the tire i will have to try to squeeze my had thru the spokes or take the tire off.
