Shops will tend to charge more when they are getting just the risky end of the business -- the installation, if they are willing to do the work at all. I used to buy tires from Tire Rack and bring them to shops, but as my cars got fancier and my wheels bigger, fewer shops were willing and they wanted more money. Now I just go to Town Fair Tire in Concord, NH and have them price match the tires I want, buy the tires through them, and they install them. They have installed stock 245 and 265 on my Apex ARC9 18 x 9.5 and 10.5 and recently put 265 and 285 on those wheels. They have installed 235 and 255 snows on my stock 18 x 8.5 and 9.5. Never had an issue, but not sure they would be interested in just the install.
