I would definitely go SS in this situation, aluminum could get brittle from thermal cycling at the mounting bosses, and I'm sure you're not planning on using casting for something that is otherwise so thin? SS will too but it's a lot stronger and more ductile to begin with, 304 would probably work and like you said you're talking ounces here.
