I'd go with the beater. I'm in the same situation. My GTO is gone on the 17th, sold Private Party for about $3k more than the dealer wanted to give me. I'm close to work so I'm just going to buy a bike to get me through the week or so I'm going to be without a car. If it were going to be longer, like a month, I'd be all over a beater.
