I'm the wrong guy to ask - both my cars are 2-seaters with ~300hp.

Personally, and I mean no insult by this, but people that refuse to drive their M3s year-round are doing it wrong, imo. The only reason to get an M3 over a dedicated sports car like an M Coupe or Porsche 911 or whatever is that the M3 offers 90% of the performance while still being year-round practical with the proper tires for the season. I say man up and go with option two, or go all the way: sell the M3 and buy a real, full-on sports car, then get an old truck or beater for winter and hauling.
