If you're still wanting the old days pop the hood and rub the engine while you are waiting for the reading to update.

When engine oil level drops below 1 qt. you get a level warning while driving.
The same sensor tests the oil condition for the Condition Based Service (CBS) system. No more window stickers for oil change reminders.

After teaching auto repair for almost 40 years, I find this system better for the majority of the population. Dip sticks left out of the engine, dip sticks damaged and tubes broken off at the engine block, and many owners that NEVER check the oil level.
