I generally agree with the OEM sentiment but in this case I wish there was a better aftermarket alternative.

Technically they are not OEM. The Pilkington glass doesn't have a BMW emblem and is made in a different factory, and it has a tint strip (the final years of the E90/E92 didn't have it at all). Quality is still excellent, but it is definitely not an OEM windshield.

I have no optical distortions in my "aftermarket" Pilkington that was just installed, FWIW.
Incorrect. Pilkington is OEM glass, both installed at the factory and as an OEM replacement part. See below (just took this, same as the one I got when I bought the car):
