I'm curious how the M3 seats are different from the 335i seats in ways that would effect headroom? Are they noticeably thicker?
I am 6'4" and had the 335i at the drag strip earlier this month and was able to put on the helmet just fine. I could still put my finger between the roof and the helmet. However, I have my normal seat position set to the lowest possible height and reclined somewhat. Sounds to me like my position is similar to the one you describe as not providing your with a good grip.
