That may be true in your case, but I would never recommend it. There are plenty of sub-optimal things one can do to one's setup that won't be noticeable most of the time. A track situation will certainly bring them to light much faster, but if a person cares enough about handling and performance to pay thousands of dollars more for an M3 compared to a 335, it seems illogical to run a mismatched set of tires just to save a hundred bucks. Especially in a case where the guys who made the tires explicitly said that it was a bad idea.
