There appear to be multiple causes. When i posted a video of the sound in my thread entitled "Cowbell Noise: Losing Patience" it ended up being a pebble inside of the rotor - per the Dealer. They removed it handed it to me and said "here's your problem." I unceremoniously threw it on the ground as soon as I walked out. I have not had any problems since.

In other cases, I have heard that there is a pebble trapped in the heat shield. I've also heard it being a problem with the E Brake. Take it to the dealer and have them take it out.
