M3Post user 'lugnut' reported that he was unable to use the new controller in his 02-2008 build -- and that was supposedly including a software update and vehicle recoding. My guess is that the dealer screwed up during the software update. I know my car had a full SW update 4 months ago from the dealer.
Regardless, we now have positive confirmation that the new iDrive controller will work on a pre 02-2008 built vehicle with the CDMA TCU. I hope this is good news for all of the people who want to do this upgrade...just go to your dealer and insist on the latest software updates for your car.
BTW, I have the -309 controller if anybody needs to know.

Well color me surprised. I still can't either either my -311 or my -309 controller to work with my 2/08 E92. I am really at a loss as to what the problem may be. So all you did was unplug your old knob, and plug the new controller unit in, and it all worked?
How would I test to see what software version I am running as opposed to what you are running PG? I can't believe that the dealership messed up a software update multiple times (twice after I installed -311 and once prior to the install at my 15k service).
