Actually about 5,000 years ago, Egyptians would travel across destitute plains of desert with no map, and they concluded their lateral positions lined up with the crest of a camels hump, they knew it was the middle of the week and should be coming upon a section of land that actually had water. Had they missed this landmark, they would parish.
Thus "Hump" day.
