SSK = Short Shift Kit
It improves the overall shifting feel. I've read it's the best mod you can do for the 6 speed e9x M3.
Here's a very good thread of where I learned quite a bit about the ssk. Pay close attention to TLud's posts, since he basically gives an unbiased, step by step review of his personal experience with UUC's ssk from the time of install:
