With my rear Moton adjuster if I unload the main spring (compress helper spring) then I'm able to adjust rear ride height. The Moton adjuster is at the top of the spring and goes into the chassis. It sounds like the KW adjuster is at the bottom of the main spring (sitting on the control arm) so there really isn't anything to prevent the threaded side of the adjuster from spinning. Based on the OP's problem even if you unload the main spring the entire adjuster still spins.
Are you using KW's?
