OEM wheels are painted and laquered..you would only need to polish if you have severe discoloration of the top coat..a good clean with the right product may do the trick..Some of the detail gurus can maybe recommend what to use..

I use plain soap and water but I also clean my wheels frequently (once a week)..that imo is the key... cleaning them often will prevent dirt, brake dust ect. from being embedded into the wheels causing pitting and discoloration.

Alright, the first 4 pictures are the wheel. The last one, is a scratch on the fender (debating whether it could be fixed with touch-up paint or take it somewhere (I have Automotive Touch-up paint). The 2 pictures before the last one is the black trim which I have no idea how to take that off. Looks like oxidation but I have tell if it's plastic or painted.
