Uploading music to the car's hard drive

I'm getting a new M3 with the BMW professional media pack, USB Audio interface and bluetooth among other bits and bobs
My question is that the dealer told me that I can upload 12GB of music from a USB but does anyone know if I can just copy music from my iTunes straight to the USB and load that to the car?
I had an RS4 before and I had to muck about converting all the iTunes AAC files to MP3's to get them onto the SD cards that Audi use. Obviously I'd rather not do this, and it would also be a lot easier if I buy music on my iPhone to be able to upload it straight into the car.
I guess if this is not possible I could buy a cheap Ipod and leave it in the car all the time, but does the display on the car display track names etc and give you full functionality to control the iPod?
On the Audi the iPod controller only displayed track 1, track 2 etc, which was rubbish, the only way you could get the track names was by converting to MP3 and using the SD cards.
Sorry for the long post and any advice greatly appreciated!
Cheers
Mark
