A year is a good guideline to replace lug bolts AND studs. Think about the lateral loads they see on the track.

With that said...

Properly installing the studs will help (don't need to torque them down).
Properly torqueing lug nuts will help (don't do it when they are hot).
I just check for loose studs throughout the day, I don't re-torque (ends up in overtorquing)
If you ever drive the car and the wheel was not seated properly against the hub, replace the studs. They will fail much quicker.

Funny think about BMWs. If I've ever seen a car with a wheel that comes off at the track...its a BMW. 5 so far. I have never seen another marques lose a wheel. Just my observations.
